    Stop Searching, Start Vacationing

During the COVID pandemic, there are many questions that arise when looking to travel for leisure or out of necessity. If you are looking to go to Florida any time soon, read below for current federal and state guidelines, as well as recommended tips for staying safe.

What is the state of Florida’s COVID rate and response?

According to Covid Act Now, Florida currently has a high vulnerability to COVID impacts, a high COVID positivity rate, but a slow infection rate and moderate vaccination rate compared to other U.S. states. The Florida Department of Health has issued a public health advisory which asks residents and travelers to wear face masks when social distancing is not possible and to avoid indoor gatherings or close-contact spaces with other people. They also advise travellers to not come to Florida if you tested positive for COVID, if you have had close contact with a positive COVID case, or if you are feeling sick. The public health advisory is enforced differently across different private businesses and institutions.

    • What does the CDC and federal government recommend about traveling to Florida?

    • The CDC warns that interstate travel increases your likelihood of contracting COVID. If you do travel to Florida from out of state it is best to get tested 1-3 days before your trip, and avoid traveling if the test is positive. It is also recommended that you get tested 3-5 days after returning home to see if you contracted COVID while in Florida.

    • What are steps I should take to stay safe before traveling to Florida?

      • If traveling to Florida, it is a great idea to get fully vaccinated if possible in your state or country, before traveling. It is also good to plan outdoor activities and without many people. Make sure that you get tested before traveling to Florida, and do not travel if you test positive. Make sure to stock up on sanitizer as well!

What are steps I should take to stay safe while traveling in Florida?

While in Florida, it is a good idea to stick to outdoor activities in non-crowded areas when possible and to limit contact with high-risk Florida residents. Lucky for you, it is not hard to stay outside while in Florida, with its beautiful weather and sunny beaches! Also, make sure to wear a mask when in public places and sanitize or wash your hands after being in public spaces. It is best to contact your hotel before arriving to check what their COVID travel protocol is, as it is not consistent across all Florida businesses.
